How annoying it must be for people who cannot read their favorite books, or the daily news. Imagine yourself trying to put your book as far as you can just to be able to read and enjoy your book. Or try to picture out yourself in a restaurant, wherein you need to move the menu farther so that you can be able see their main dishes. This has been a very common problem for people with eye problems. However, many things have been invented to solve these problems.
Eyeglasses for one have been going on since history to improve vision. As time went by, there have made treatments other than eyeglasses. Contact lenses have since made a huge demand for it because of its convenience. Have you ever tried to put on your grandma or grandpa’s eyeglasses when you were young? You may have probably noticed that the both the left and right glasses have some blurry area near the base of the frame. These are called bifocal lenses. As years went by, the bifocal contact lenses were introduced. The convenience and naturalness appealed to a lot of people. What are bifocal contact lenses anyway? Bifocal contacts are basically a variety of contact lenses that have two different focal points of power at the same time. Focal points of power are the strengths or the degree of the lens’ capability to bend or alter the light passing through it. Usually, the base part, or the bottom part has a blurry focus. This is due to the higher power of focus on the bottom part. This is mainly for reading at a close range. Bifocal contacts are used by people who are presbyopic or have presbyopia. Presbyopia is a more specific term for far-sightedness. This is a condition wherein a person is to see things clearly from afar but unable to focus on things that are near. This is usually brought about by aging, although there are many other factors that may cause it. Far sightedness is a common eye problem, but bifocal contact lenses are still not that popular to the people. There are many benefits that a user can acquire from bifocal contacts. The convenience, as said earlier is the main key to its success. Since this type of contacts has both the focal powers needed for reading and the usual stuff, one need not shift from a low powered contact lens to a high powered one. Plus, for older and busy persons, it would lessen the incidence of worrying about misplaced eyeglasses and stuff. Certainly, one can get the best views on things that are near and far from him, thanks to the bifocal contacts. Certain downsides however have caused this type of contacts to not attract too much attention. For one, first-time users are not used to having two point of focus every time they look around. Glaring light reflecting on the middle portion wherein the two focal points meet distracts its users and sometimes puts them out of focus. Older models of bifocal contacts did not attract many people mainly because of these reasons, however, because of new technology; the manufacturers are now trying to produce better models for the consumers. Truly, eye problems can be stressing to one’s life. It may be the cause of disruption in one’s routine or work, and may affect a person’s life greatly. However, through these helpful instruments like the bifocal contact lenses, it has made a lot of people’s life better and happier. |
